A significant legislative initiative is underway in Greece for the modernisation of the legal framework governing co-ownership, horizontal property and vertical property. The reform aims to update the existing regime, which is still largely based on Law 3741/1929, by consolidating scattered provisions, simplifying the operation of apartment buildings, facilitating decision-making among co-owners, accelerating the resolution of partition and co-ownership disputes, and enabling the legal and practical utilisation of properties that remain blocked due to unresolved ownership issues. Particular emphasis is also placed on the connection of the new framework with the Hellenic Cadastre, planning and environmental law, as well as the recent reform of inheritance law, with the broader objective of creating a modern and functional Property Code in Greece.
