Summer holidays should not mean taking a break from protecting our privacy.
The Croatian Data Protection Authority has highlighted several practical precautions:
📷 Before posting photographs taken at beaches, restaurants or hotels, we should consider whether other individuals —particularly children— are clearly visible and identifiable.
🏨 When checking into tourist accommodation, guests may be required to present an identity document for lawful registration purposes. However, copying or retaining the document is generally unnecessary and should always be assessed in light of the GDPR principle of data minimisation.
💳 Extra caution is required when receiving messages asking for booking confirmation, additional payments, card details, online banking credentials or one-time passwords. Any such request should be verified through the hotel’s or booking platform’s official communication channels.
📶 Public Wi-Fi networks are not always secure. Mobile data or another trusted network should preferably be used for online banking, card payments and access to sensitive personal accounts.
